Tuition/Fee Structure
Thank you for reviewing our tiered fee structure, which reconciles our wish to make the training increasingly accessible with our need to cover staff labor and the rising costs of our materials. Please read the descriptions below and be in touch with us (info@oralhistorysummerschool.com) if you would like support selecting your tuition tier.

Standard/Institutional: $900 + $25 for materials + 3% processing fee = $952 [Unlimited, up to workshop cap]
This tuition tier is for participants who are employed full-time/salaried, who may finance vacations and/or dining out, and/or who receive professional development funds or other additional support from an institution. If the aforementioned criteria does not apply to you but you do have the financial means to pay the full rate, we invite you to register accordingly. Registrants who pay the Standard/Institutional tuition enable us to continue offering subsidized and free registration for participants historically excluded from the field.

Independent: $650 + $25 for materials + 3% processing fee = $695 [Unlimited, up to workshop cap]
This tuition tier is for participants such as freelancers, independent scholars and/or those who are employed full-time, but do not have institutional support or professional development funds to cover the workshop. Those with steady income are encouraged to look to the institutional tier. As a note, if you do earn steady income but are experiencing ongoing instability—including but not limited to housing, healthcare, caregiving obligations—we invite you to register at the Independent rate rather than the Standard level.

Hand-Up: $400 + $25 for materials + 3% processing fee = $437 [2 seats]

This tuition tier is reserved for BIPOC participants who could not attend our workshop without this subsidy. This includes those who do not have reliable or steady income or may be experiencing precarity/transitional employment, or who may be choosing this tuition tier because of categories of identity and/or circumstances that have impacted their earning opportunities. We earmark Hand-Up seats as well as tuition-free (Fellowship) seats in every workshop. These subsidized seats are funded through grants, fundraisers, and other members' tuition.

Note: Due to small class size, OHSS is unable to provide refunds. Tuition is non-refundable or transferable for withdrawal or cancellation.
