Técnicas de entrevista trauma-informadas: Métodos para crear espacios seguros y éticos donde las personas puedan compartir sus experiencias, especialmente cuando abordan temas difíciles o dolorosos
Construcción de preguntas efectivas: El arte de desarrollar preguntas abiertas que inviten a narrativas profundas en lugar de respuestas simples
Ética y consentimiento: Protocolos para obtener consentimiento informado, incluyendo consideraciones sobre el uso de IA y la protección de narradores vulnerables
Del audio a la narrativa: Introducción a la edición narrativa y cómo transformar entrevistas en historias que respeten la voz del narrador

Este espacio es ideal para educadores, organizadores comunitarios, trabajadores sociales, estudiantes, artistas, periodistas, y cualquier persona interesada en documentar historias que importan. No se requiere experiencia previa—solo curiosidad y el compromiso de escuchar con intención.
El taller se facilitará en un ambiente bilingüe donde el español y el Spanglish son bienvenidos y celebrados, reconociendo que la manera en que hablamos el español está ligado a nuestras experiencias migratorias y son parte integral de nuestras narrativas.
Introduction to Oral History: un taller en español y espanglish
This one-day workshop offers a practical and accessible introduction to oral history methodology, centered in the traditions of oral history and testimonio in Latin America, and designed especially for those who want to document their communities' stories with ethical intention and narrative rigor. Through interactive exercises, group discussions, and hands-on practice, we'll explore how oral history can be a powerful tool for amplifying marginalized voices and creating meaningful community archives.
What you'll learn:
During this bilingual workshop (Spanish and Spanglish), participants will develop fundamental skills in:
Trauma-informed interviewing techniques: Methods for creating safe and ethical spaces where people can share their experiences, especially when addressing difficult or painful topics
Crafting effective questions: The art of developing open-ended questions that invite deep narratives rather than simple answers
Ethics and consent: Protocols for obtaining informed consent, including considerations about AI use and protecting vulnerable narrators
From audio to narrative: Introduction to narrative editing and how to transform interviews into stories that respect the narrator's voice
Who this workshop is for:
This space is ideal for educators, community organizers, social workers, students, artists, journalists, and anyone interested in documenting stories that matter. No prior experience required—just curiosity and a commitment to listening with intention.
The workshop will be facilitated in a bilingual environment where Spanish and Spanglish are welcomed and celebrated, recognizing that our languages are integral parts of our narratives.
Tuition:
Hand-Up: $100 (2 spots): These spaces are reserved as part of an equity initiative to support more BIPOC voices at the table and in the field. If you are eligible based on these criteria and cannot attend at the standard tuition rate, please select this option.
Independent: $225 (Unlimited): This tuition tier is for participants without institutional support, without a salary, and/or for those who work in under-resourced economies (education, social work, etc). Those with steady income are encouraged to look to the institutional tier.
Institutional: $375 (Unlimited): Unlimited, up to 20 participants. This tuition tier is for participants who are employed full-time/salaried, who may finance vacations and/or dining out, and/or who receive professional development funds or other additional support from an institution.
